Learn To Play Whist!

On Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the Library! at Cole and Ustick, JASNA-Idaho members will gather to learn to play whist. Whist is a card game played in Jane Austen's time, and it is featured in four of Austen's novels. References to whist are also found in C. S. Forester's "Horatio Hornblower" series, Patrick O'Brian's "Aubrey and Maturin" series, and many other books set in the Regency.

JASNA member Susan Durst will give us a short presentation on whist in Austen's novels, and then Dave and Mariah from the downtown "All About Games" store will explain and demonstrate the game. We will break into groups to try our luck, and Dave and Mariah will provide advice and assistance.
